Africa has a worldwide reputation as a country that desperately requires help to end poverty & find peace. With over thousands dying every year due to poverty it is clear the nation needs all the help it can get in these difficult economic times.
Although staying in a 4 star resort in Africa will not end poverty, the boost it gives to the local economy is invaluable. Due to the impoverishment of many families and the break-up of traditional family structures in The Gambia an increasing number of children had to fend for themselves on the streets. This situation induced SOS-Kinderdorf International to set up the first SOS Children's Village in 1981 - established in Bakoteh, approx a 10 minute drive from The Seaview Gardens Hotel.
