BIRD WATCHING IN
THE GAMBIA

The Gambia and Senegal not only provide an ideal introduction to African birding--The Gambia has well over 500 species in a small area (Africas smallest country)--but they are also great places for those birders who have already visited Eastern and Southern Africa and wish to complement their life lists with scores of specialties.

This area has become known a s a Birdwatcher’s Paradise, with the native Egyptian Plover or Crocodile Bird attracting some of the keenest ornithologists in the world. Even within the grounds of the Seaview Gardens Hotel or our neighbouring hotel there is a variety of species to enjoy all on our doorstep.

There is one bird species every 21.0 km2 with one of the rarest being the Golden Cukoo native to Foni.
